Patricia "Pat" Marie Baker

Patricia "Pat" Marie Baker, 87, of La Porte, passed away on Thursday, November 5, 2020 at her home. 

   

Pat was born in Bloomington, IN, on July 24, 1933 to Edwin C. and Wilma Vivian (Neel) Steele.

 

On January 26, 1952 in La Porte, Indiana, she married Walter Earl Baker who preceded her in death. 

 

Surviving are her children, Roberta Morton of Mill Creek, Rebekah Sears of La Porte, Pamela Luzadder of West Lafayette, Harold Baker of Fayetteville, Georgia, Colin Baker of Mishawaka, and Lyle Baker of La Porte; 24 grandchildren; 49 great-grandchildren; 2 great, great-grandchildren; 2 sisters, Mary Collins of Poway, California and Carolyn Noble of Fallbrook, California; as well as numerous nieces and nephews.

 

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; daughter, Christine; an infant son; and sister, Sylvia Dietrich.

 

Pat dedicated her life to serving her Heavenly Father, Jehovah, and raising her children as Jehovah Witnesses.  She loved to play Scrabble and complete jigsaw puzzles, which she did right up until her passing.  Pat was well known for the crocheted bags and Humpty Dumpty characters she created.  Her creativity was also expressed through sewing and quilt making, which she followed in the tradition of her mother.  Pat also enjoyed traveling, having traveled all 50 states with her husband, Walter, collecting teapots, teacups, and various teas along the way.

 

Pat will be fondly remembered by her children for her homemade pies and gardening.  The family enjoyed canning the bountiful harvest from the gardens.

 

Pat was proficient in American Sign Language as a way to communicate with her deaf relatives.  She shared this gift with others, who desired to learn to sign. 

 

Cremation has taken place with Cutler Funeral Home and Cremation Center, La Porte. Burial will be at Patton Cemetery
