Dallas E. "Gene" Pavey

Dallas E. “Gene” Pavey, 92, of La Porte, Indiana passed away Sunday, November 1, 2020.

Gene was born February 14, 1928, in South Bend, Indiana to the late Wesley and Lucy (Hostetler) Pavey.  He spent most of his life in La Porte.

 

Gene was the co-founder and owner of Pavey Excavating and former owner of Genes City Service Station.  He was a United States Army Veteran during the Korean War, a lifetime and oldest member of the La Porte VFW, a volunteer for Parents and Friends, and the La Porte County Builders Association.  He enjoyed his work and business and especially enjoyed his family and grandchildren.  

 

On January 31, 1953, in La Porte Gene married Marilyn Ann “Mona” Schutz who survives.

 

Gene is survived by his wife, Mona; three daughters, Laurie (Mark) Strojny of La Porte, Indiana, Vickie (John) Partain of La Porte, Indiana and Paula (Chris) Heagy of Louisville, Kentucky; three sons, Robert (Roxy) Pavey of La Porte, Indiana, Thomas (Stacey) Pavey of La Porte, Indiana and Michael (Julie) Pavey of La Porte, Indiana; 26 grandchildren; 27 great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.  He was preceded in death by his parents; a son, Terrence Pavey; three great-grandchildren, Cohen, Brody, and Jacob Pavey; and a brother DeWayne Pavey.

 

Visitation will be from 4-7 p.m. Thursday, November 5, 2020, at Frank L. Keszei Funeral Home, Essling Chapel, 1117 Indiana Avenue, La Porte, Indiana.

 

Funeral services will be 10 a.m. Friday, November 6, 2020, at the funeral home. Visitation will begin at 9 a.m. until the time of services.  Reverend Benjamin Crostreet will officiate. Burial will follow in Patton Cemetery with military honors.

 

Funeral services will be streamed live on the following FACEBOOK pages, Laurie Pavey Strojny and Kim Olivarez. 

 

Due to Covid-19, everyone visiting the funeral home is required to wear a face mask.  

 

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Share Foundation with the Handicapped Inc., Endowment Fund, Unity Foundation, 422 Franklin Street, Suite C., Michigan City, Indiana 46360.
