Edna Maahs Kelsey

Heaven gained a feisty faithful servant with the arrival of Edna Maahs Kelsey on July 24, 2020.

A life-long resident of La Porte, Edna arrived the seventh of nine children born to Caroline and Thomas Maahs on May 30, 1927, right behind Carl, Alma, Emma, Elmer “Bud”, Frieda, Edgar and just ahead of Norman and Thomas.  While life during Depression for a large family held challenges, Mom and her siblings learned resilience, respect, and acceptance; all of which she demonstrated throughout her life.  A voracious non-fiction reader, Edna was well-read on history and cultural affairs.  The remaining book by her bedstand was Visionary Women which was indicative of not only who she was, but also what she stood for.  She was also a feeder of birds, squirrels, feral cats, raccoons, and the occasional opossum.

On October 16, 1951, she married Dr. Robert "Bob" Kelsey who preceded her in death on October 15, 2011.

She is survived by Bob (Beth) Kelsey, Marcia (Barry) Cesafsky, Sandra (Kirby) Chapman, and Steve (Joan) Kelsey; eight grandchildren, Bobby Cesafsky, Laura Conley, Karen Yannell, Kim Cesafsky, Caroline VanSickle, Emma Chapman, Victoria Kelsey, Alexander Kelsey, and Anastasia Kelsey; and four great-grandchildren, Elle and Jack Cesafsky and Abby and Ollie Conley

She was preceded in death by her parents and husband.

Cremation has taken place with Cutler Funeral Home and Cremation Center, La Porte.

A private graveside ceremony will be held at St. John's Lutheran Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to St. John's Lutheran Church, 111 Kingsbury Avenue, La Porte, IN  46350.
