Loretta J. Walker

Loretta J. Walker, 83, of La Porte, passed away peacefully at 8:07 a.m., Monday, May 25, 2020, in her home.

 

She was born September 15, 1936, in Illinois, to Fred and Lola (Mulvaney) Beal.

Loretta was a loving homemaker and who enjoyed prioritizing her family above all. She was proud to be the head chef, coordinator, and supervisor of the kitchen for all her family gatherings. She enjoyed camping, bird watching, keeping birdhouses and feeders, as well as working in her flower garden. Loretta was an avid fan of the Indianapolis Colts, loved Memorial Day picnics and the Indianapolis 500. She will be remembered as a loving wife, mother, grandmother, and great grandmother.

 

On August 15, 1953, in Valparaiso, IN, she married the love of her life, Clarence “Gene” Walker, who survives.  Together they shared over 66 years of marriage.

 

Also surviving are two children, Diana (Don) Lloyd of La Porte and Curt (Debbie) Walker of Michigan City; five brothers, Harold (Bonnie) Beal of Arkansas, Michael (Sharon) Beal of La Porte, Arthur (Shirley Faye) Beal of Arkansas, Larry (Bonnie) Beal of Michigan City and Eddie (Vicky) Beal of La Porte; one brother-in-law, Clarence Streeting of Michigan City; three grandchildren, Cory Lloyd, Brehan (Joe Sims) Walker, Michael (Lauren) Walker; four great-grandchildren, Lilliana, Aliyah, Selena and Carlos Sims; and multiple grand pets.

 

Preceding in death were her parents; one brother, Wilbur Beal; and one sister, Phyllis Streeting.

A memorial service celebrating her life will be held at 1 p.m., Tuesday, June 2, 2020, at Lakeview Funeral Home and Crematory, 247 W. Johnson Rd., La Porte (219) 362-3100.  Visitation will be from 12 p.m. until time of service Tuesday at the funeral home.
