Robert "Bob" L. Truesdell

Robert "Bob" L. Truesdell, 91, of La Porte, passed away on Monday, May 25, 2020, at his home, surrounded by his family.

Bob was born on April 22, 1929, to Irene and Preston L. Truesdell, in Logansport, IN.  He was the oldest of five children.  His siblings include Josephine Tolly of Liburn, GA, Marilyn (Lenny) Woznicki of Lancaster, CA, and Carol Youngblood of Indianapolis, IN.  Bob was proceeded in death by his brother, Kenney (Susie) Truesdell and his parents.

Bob married the love of his life, Joann, in 1954 and they just recently celebrated their 65th anniversary.  They raised three children, Brent (Gaye) of Baton Rouge, LA, Brenda (adventure partner, Nancy) of Kingman, AZ, and Lori (adventure partner, Mike) of Michigan, City, IN.  Bob served in the Korean War and as a chaplain for the Honor Guard of the VFW-American Legion in La Porte and the VFW in Rolling Prairie for many years.  He took great pride in his role.  All through the years, he worked hard to support his family and encouraged his children to be the best possible versions of themselves.  Bob was always offering words of wisdom and imparting advice about life's challenges.

Bob and Joann loved to travel together and exposed their children to this joy, early on.  They set goals for themselves to visit all 50 states and were able to achieve this goal.  Their four visits to Hawaii demonstrate a particular fondness for that state.  In addition, they traveled abroad to Austria, Germany, Australia, and New Zealand.

By far, his most cherished role in life was that of Grandpa.  He dearly loved his grandsons, Matt of Richmond, IN, Andrew (Erin) of Liberty Township, OH, and Stephen (Stephanie) of Liberty Township, OH.  He received the ultimate blessing and honor of having his first great-grandchild born on his 89th birthday.  Bob's young namesake will forever carry a part of his great-grandfather's legacy.

Bob was always social, jovial, and well-liked by others.  Many of his children's friends adopted him as a father.  Bob had many meaningful friendships throughout the years and was loved and respected by many.  He will be sorely missed by all who knew him.  Bob was a member of the Trinity Lutheran Church of La Porte.

A Celebration of Life Service will be held at 12 p.m. on Monday, June 1, 2020, at Cutler Funeral Home and Cremation Center with Pastors David Solum and Richard Ungrodt officiating.  Burial with Full Military Honors will follow at Pine Lake Cemetery.

A time of visitation will be held from 10 a.m. -12 p.m. on Monday, June 1, 2020, at Cutler Funeral Home and Cremation Center.
