Ronald B. Stelter

Ronald B. Stelter, 89, of La Porte, passed away on Wednesday, May 20, 2020 at home with his loving wife by his side. 

   

Ronald was born in Chicago, IL, on September 24, 1930, to Erick and Victoria (Wisniewski) Stelter. 

 

On January 16, 1954, in Chicago, IL, he married Marie Orman who survives.  Also surviving are his children, Deborah (Stephen) DeGraeve of Cedar Falls, IA and Kenneth (Beth) Stelter of La Porte; 3 granddaughters, Kristin and Carlyn DeGraeve, both of Iowa City, IA, and Lisa (Paul Hooper) Stelter of Skokie, IL; 3 great-grandchildren, Amelia, Sammy, and Olivia; siblings, Elaine Srvich of Rural Retreat, VA, Harold Stelter of Lake Havasu, AZ, Arnold Stelter of New Glarus, WI, and Eunice Stelter of Eldon, MO; numerous nieces and nephews; very dear friend, Carol Gregg of Chicago, IL; and adopted granddaughters, Catie Loomis and Emma Gregg.

 

He was preceded in death by his parents and sister, Evelyn Dickens.

 

Ronald was a veteran of the US Navy having served in the Korean War.  He obtained an Associates's degree in Mechanical Engineering from Purdue University.  Ronald then worked as a machine designer for Continental Can Company for 44 years before he retired in 1993. He enjoyed camping, fishing, hiking, hunting, scuba diving, building and flying radio airplanes, woodworking, Ham Radio, and photography. Ronald was a private pilot and built and flew his own airplane, a Mustang II.

 

Cremation has taken place with Cutler Funeral Home and Cremation Center, La Porte.

   

A Celebration of Life Memorial Service with Full Military Honors will be held at 12:00 pm on Friday, June 12, 2020, at Cutler Funeral Home and Cremation Center.

 

A time of visitation will be held from 11 am until the time of the service on Friday at the funeral home.
