James "Box" Randall Charlson

James "Box" Randall Charlson, 63, passed away on Tuesday, February 4, 2020, at home, surrounded by family.

 

Randy was born on June 10, 1956, in Valparaiso, IN, to James and Joan (Smith) Charlson.

 

On January 28, 1983, in Lake Station, he married Laura Larson who survives.  Also, surviving are his children, Karley Herbst and Zakary Charlson, both of La Porte; son-in-law, Phillip Knapp of La Porte; 4 granddaughters, Madilynn, Alayna, Macy, and Peyton; siblings, Michael Charlson of California, Janie Steffen of Beavercreek, OH, and Wendy (Bob) Howard of Stafford, VA; in-laws, Ray and Dee Larson of Hobart; as well as many nieces and nephews.

 

He was preceded in death by his parents; grandparents; and brother-in-law, Randy Steffen of Xenia, OH.

 

Randy was a Union Carpenter for over 20 years at Local #1485.  He loved his "Cubbies" and tolerated "Da Bears"!  Papa lived every day for his granddaughters.  He was an amazing cook, a loving husband, father, Papa, and brother.

 

A Celebration of Life Memorial Gathering will be held at 1 p.m., Saturday, February 8, 2020, at the DAV, 2301 Ohio St., Michigan City.  Cremation has taken place with Cutler Funeral Home and Cremation Center, La Porte.
