Music notes: Alex Warren, Sara Bareilles and more

Alex Warren is announcing something Wednesday at 1 p.m. ET. It's evidently so important that he's holding special gatherings in London and LA to deliver the news. Fans speculate it might be a new song, a new album or even that he's involved in Toy Story 5. That's because he teased the announcement with a video that shows him being hoisted up by strings against a blue cloud background. Stay tuned.

Sara Bareilles will release her first new music that isn't tied to a film or theater project in nearly seven years on Wednesday. "Home" arrives at 11 a.m. ET. She writes, "I’m so happy to finally share new music," and then joked, "this new work is deeply personal… unlike all my other stuff." Thursday will see the premiere of Sara's new documentary, Good Grief, at New York's Tribeca Festival.

Olivia Rodrigo's new song "the cure" has debuted at #5 on the Billboard Hot 100. It's her eighth top-10 and her second from her upcoming album, you seem pretty sad for a girl so in love. The first one, "drop dead," debuted at #1 in May. In addition, "the cure" has debuted at #1 on Billboard's Hot Rock & Alternative Songs chart. It's her third #1 on that chart, after "brutal" and "bad idea right?"

To streaming and beyond: New Taylor Swift song for 'Toy Story 5' is coming Friday

Taylor Swift, 'I Knew It, I Knew You' from 'Toy Story 5' (Walt Disney Records)

It's official: Taylor Swift is joining Woody, Buzz and the gang in Toy Story 5.

She's written and recorded a song for the film called "I Knew It, I Knew You." You can preorder the single now from her website; it's set to ship on or around June 19, which is when the film hits theaters. However, the singles are only available until Wednesday at 1:59 p.m. ET or while supplies last.

There are three different versions of the song available: the standard version, a piano version and an acoustic version. All are available as CD singles with different artwork. The song itself will be out on Friday.

Taylor wrote on Instagram, "You knew it! My new original song 'I Knew It, I Knew You' for Disney and @pixar’s @toystory 5 will be yours on June 5th. I’ve always dreamed of getting to write for these characters who I’ve adored since I was a 5 year old kid watching the first Toy Story movie."

She continues, "I fell instantly in love with Toy Story 5 when I was lucky enough to see it in its early stages, and I wrote this song as soon as I got home from the screening. Sometimes you just know, right?"

According to a press release, the song is inspired by the journey of Toy Story character Jessie and "marks a return to Taylor's country roots." Director and screenwriter Andrew Stanton said in a statement, "[Taylor's] connection to Jessie and the immediate way she understood what the character was going through was undeniable."

As previously reported, fans first suspected Taylor was involved in the film on April 30, when she posted — and then removed — a Toy Story-coded countdown on her website.

Ariana Grande haunts Justin Long in new video for 'hate that i made you love me'

Ariana Grande, 'hate that i made you love me' (Katia Temkin)

Ariana Grande is a vengeful ghost in the new video for her song "hate that i made you love me," the first single from her album petal.

In the clip, actor Justin Long is seen digging a grave in the desert; as he drives away, we go down beneath the dirt and see that Ariana is trapped in a dirty room, surrounded by black-and-white composition books, which she starts reading. One is labeled "Insecurities."

Meanwhile, Justin drives away, throwing a picture of Ari out the window. He looks at the rearview mirror, only to see her sitting in the back seat. He then sees her standing in the road in front of him and drives through her. He panics and flips the car, which bursts into flames. As he staggers away, Ariana appears in the road.

Back at home, Justin tries to get rid of everything in his house that reminds him of Ari. He picks up a plate that reads "Happy 8th Anniversary" — likely because petal is Ari's eighth album — and chucks it in the fireplace. That causes some kindling to spill onto the rug and set the room — and him — on fire.

A burned-up Justin then staggers into a diner, but all the patrons are Ariana, and so is the waitress, whose name tag reads "Petal."

Finally, Justin goes back to the desert and digs up the grave. He descends into the room and finds it empty. Then, he looks up and see Ariana, who starts shoveling dirt on top of him. The end.

Taylor Swift/'Toy Story 5' rumors intensify based on franchise's official IG account

'Toy Story 5' (Walt Disney Pictures)

The people behind Toy Story 5 have denied that Taylor Swift has recorded the end credit song for the movie, but that doesn't mean she's not involved in the movie in some way. In fact, the movie's marketing materials are strongly suggesting that there is some sort of Taylor connection.

On Sunday, the Toy Story Instagram account posted photos of a series of billboards advertising the movie. They simply read "TS" and there are 13 white clouds behind the initials. The caption of that post also has 13 clouds. Taylor's favorite number is, of course, 13.

Prior to that, the Instagram account posted a video of Toy Story character Jessie dancing under a "TS" billboard, with the caption, "She’s making those moves up as she goes!" That's a reference to the lyrics of Taylor's hit "Shake It Off."

Fans first suspected Taylor was involved in the film on April 30, when she posted — and then removed — a countdown on her website that seemed to be Toy Story-coded. It featured blue skies, white clouds and the same shade of yellow used in the franchise's branding. Fans also noticed that Toy Story 5's release date, June 19, marks the 20th anniversary of her debut single.

Swifties are now wondering if Taylor is going to voice a character, contribute a song that appears earlier in the film, or both.

From Pentatonix to 'SIX': Kirstin Maldonado's back on Broadway

Kirstin Maldonado (Ashley Osborne)

Two years ago, Pentatonix member Kirstin Maldonado unsuccessfully auditioned for a part in the hit Broadway musical SIX. The show's team kept her in mind, and on Monday night, she'll make her debut in the popular production, where she'll perform through Aug. 9.

"They asked me to come in for this year, so we just worked it around what was already happening with Pentatonix," says Kirstin.

This isn't her first Broadway appearance: In 2018, she starred in Kinky Boots. Speaking with ABC Audio about her role in SIX, Kristin says, "It's a challenge in a really, really beautiful way. And I just think that the story is very important. It's all about highlighting voices that maybe hadn't been heard at the time."

The show tells the story of the six wives of Henry VIII, reimagining them as pop singers competing to be the lead singer based on whose royal marriage was the worst. Kirstin plays Anne Boelyn, whom Henry had famously beheaded.

"She gives, like, that pop punk energy," Kirstin says of Anne, whose character was inspired by Lily Allen and Avril Lavigne.

Kirstin adds, "She gives me, like, kind of gremlin energy where she's just like effortlessly funny .. and so that's been really fun to play up. And yeah, I'm excited just to, like, really do the cool girl energy of her."

And just like her previous Broadway stint, Kirstin says the community gives "good energy" and good vibes."

"I had such a wonderful time at Kinky Boots," she says. "And I was like, That experience is just so, like, immaculately lovely in my head ... and I wonder what this will be? And like, the second I was here, I was, like, 'Okay, I love everyone, this is so fun, it's already amazing.'"

Charlie Puth duets with Simon & Garfunkel's Art Garfunkel, Jimmy Fallon at Madison Square Concert

In his online role as "Professor Puth," Charlie Puth is usually the teacher, but Friday night at New York's Madison Square Garden, he was the pupil.

Charlie brought out Rock & Roll Hall of Famer Art Garfunkel -- who with Paul Simon made up the legendary duo Simon & Garfunkel -- as a special guest. "He learned how to make his records from me and Paul. Producing, singing," Art said of Charlie. "You're my student."

"I am your student," Charlie confirmed. "I'm serious. I'm not just saying that because all these wonderful people are here.  The reason why I'm here right now is because of the music you've written with Paul. It's amazing."

Art, 84, then talked about the shifting popularity of various Simon & Garfunkel songs. "They all have their lifespans, but 'The Boxer' stays well loved," he noted, before he and Charlie began duetting on the song. "The Boxer," with its signature "lie-la-lie" chorus, was released in 1969 and reached the top 10.

It's worth noting that "Carla's Song," a track on Harry Styles' latest album, was inspired by another famous Simon & Garfunkel song, "Bridge Over Troubled Water."

In addition to Art, Charlie also brought out a few other guests during the show. He and Jimmy Fallon teamed up to sing "Africa" by Toto, and rapper Busta Rhymes showed up to perform his songs "Break Ya Neck" and "Put Your Hands Where My Eyes Could See," and his verse on Chris Brown's "Look at Me Now."  Gospel legend Kirk Franklin also joined Charlie to sing "I Smile," "Lean on Me" and "Stomp."

Olivia Dean ties Alex Warren for UK chart record thanks to Sam Fender duet

Olivia Dean's duet with Sam Fender, "Rein Me In" — which just made Spotify's list of "songs of the summer" contenders — has tied a chart record set last year by Alex Warren.

The song has notched a 13th week at #1 on the U.K.'s Official Singles Chart. As per Billboard, "Reign Me In" is now tied with Alex's "Ordinary" as the longest-running song of the 2020s. Until Alex broke it in 2025, the previous record was 11 weeks, held by Ed Sheeran's "Bad Habits."

"Rein Me In" is a song that Sam originally recorded for his album People Watching. It was then released as a remix with Olivia singing on it; the two have also performed the song live onstage together.

So far, "Rein Me In" has yet to have the same success in the U.S. But Olivia is doing just fine on her own, with two massive hits: "Man I Need" and "So Easy (To Fall in Love)." She brings her The Art of Loving tour to the U.S. July 10 in San Francisco.

Madonna reveals her 'best' lover was this late icon

Madonna (Rafael Pavarotti)

Madonna's romantic life is the stuff of legend, but she's willing to name one of her past lovers as being the "best" — with one important caveat.

The Queen of Pop sat for a short video NSFW conversation with several gay friends for the LGBTQ+ dating app Grindr, including her former opening act Bob the Drag Queen, designer Raul Lopez and playwright Jeremy O. Harris. During the conversation, Madonna was asked who her best lover was — except the word "lover" was not used, if you know what we mean.

"Oh my God," Madonna says. "I'm gonna only name dead people." She then whispers, "John Kennedy Jr."

Raul Lopez notes that "everyone says" the late attorney and publisher, who died in 1999, was good in bed, adding that Madonna is "the third person" to say that, as she nods in agreement.

Madonna also reveals that her "post-coital room service order" is a club sandwich, her "sex playlist" is mostly classical music, and that she feels the "Mother" nickname given to her by the LGBTQ+ community has a lot to do with being "protective."

"When I first came to New York and started seeing — especially at the beginning at the AIDS epidemic, I saw how s*** people were to gays, and that's all I wanted to do is take care of them and fight for them and give them courage," she says. "When I was coming up, they were my ride-or-dies. I didn't feel judged by them."

To which Bob the Drag Queen replies, "That's impressive, to not be judged by the judgiest group in the world!"

Summer is fast approaching, so what songs are going to soundtrack the season?

Spotify has released its list of predictions for song of the summer and is allowing fans to vote on their favorites within the Spotify app.

Making the list this year are Ariana Grande’s newly released single “hate that i made you love me,” Zara Larsson’s “Midnight Sun,” Noah Kahan’s “Doors,” Olivia Rodrigo’s “drop dead” and Ella Langley’s “Choosin’ Texas.”

Also in the running are Sam Fender and Olivia Dean’s “Rein Me In,” PinkPantheress’ “Girl Like Me,” Dominic Fike’s “Babydoll,” Malcolm Todd’s “Earrings,” Bebe Rexha and Faithless’ “New Religion,” and Tame Impala and JENNIE’s viral hit “Dracula - JENNIE Remix.”

“I think above everything, we all know that a song of the summer is about the vibes,” Spotify's Talia Kraines says in a statement. “It’s a song that makes you feel good, that you can listen to outside in the sunshine with your friends, and that has the ability to travel across genres, people, and countries.”

Olivia Rodrigo addresses rumors of Taylor Swift feud: 'It was so long ago'

Olivia Rodrigo performs at the Disney Advertising Upfront, May 12, 2026 in New York City. (Disney/Michael Le Brecht II)

Following the release of her debut album, SOUR, Olivia Rodrigo retroactively credited Taylor Swift as a songwriter on the song "deja vu" because it sounded similar to Taylor's hit "Cruel Summer." That led to rumors of a yearslong feud between the two artists, which led to speculation that they'd buried the hatchet in April, when they were spotted at the same concert. Olivia's addressing the topic in a new episode of The New York Times' Popcast.

The interviewer asks Olivia, "Is there a frost between you and Taylor? Like, is that something that hovers over your mind? [Or] is it something that you think is a construction of the people who are doing internet detective work? How do you view that, now that you're a few years removed from the initial ... ruptures?"

Olivia sighs heavily, and then says, "Um, I don’t know. I think I try to not let it get to me or upset me. I think I just try to keep it truckin’. I think there's no — it was so long ago, there’s no use in harping on it."

"I just try to make songs that I love and try to be kind and good to other people and supportive of other people," she continues. "And I've always, like, tried to be like that. And at the end of the day, I think that’s all you can do.”

As for online "internet detectives" speculating about that and other aspects of her life, Olivia says, "I think it, like, comes with the territory and it's par for the course. And I think if I dove into every internet detective sleuth that, like, got things right or wrong about my life or any of my relationships, I think I'd just go crazy. Like, there's not enough time in the day."

Play me your favorite song: Corinne Bailey Rae's ready to launch 20th anniversary tour

Corinne Bailey Rae (Ulrike Rindermann)

Corinne Bailey Rae launches a tour Friday in celebration of the 20th anniversary of her 2006 self-titled debut album, which spawned the hit "Put Your Records On" and earned her four Grammy nominations. As Corinne told ABC Audio, she wanted to mark the milestone because that album everything for her.

"Going from playing in a bar to a hundred people to sort of getting a phone call from Stevie Wonder, or Prince coming to our show, or Elton John sending me champagne," she recalls. "Those things — really that song in particular, 'Put Your Records On' — and the popularity of that record, it really changed my life and my work."

"And so I knew the anniversary was coming but I wanted to do something special for it," she adds.

As for the set list, Corrine says she plans to play the album in its entirety, adding, "We'll maybe do like a catch-up on the end, and I'll probably say, 'If you have to leave for your babysitter, that's fine. But we're also gonna play a what you might have missed kind of thing.'"

"I'm so grateful for that," she says, adding that she's "so moved" that there are 7- and 9-year olds in the audience even if they don't always make it through the whole show.

"You definitely have a lot of lovely sweet kids on the front row who are just nodding off by the time you get to 'Put Your Records On,'" she says. "And their mum's, like, poking them: 'This is why you came!' And sometimes they wake up and sometimes they don't."

One of Taylor Swift's opening acts confirms she's going to Taylor's wedding

People who you'd assume would be invited to Taylor Swift's wedding have been cagey about whether or not they're actually attending. Talk show host Graham Norton has joked that he had to sign an NDA, for example, and Kansas City Chiefs coach Andy Reid said he'd "probably" been invited and would go "if I don't outgrow my tuxedo." But now we've got our first case of a celebrity confirming that she's actually attending the nuptials.

Model, actress and singer Suki Waterhouse, who opened for Taylor during the Eras Tour in London, tells Variety, "I’m gonna go to Taylor’s wedding, and maybe I’ll get some inspiration. It will be amazing.” Suki was talking about her own wedding to her partner, Robert Pattinson. The two share a 2-year-old daughter.

Sadly, Suki didn't reveal where and when the wedding is taking place. But she did say of Taylor, "Knowing her as a friend, she’s actually been through so much. And I think the thing I always see in her is how she pulls herself through every time, and how everything that’s ever happened to her becomes another piece of art that becomes part of the legacy. That’s so inspiring — that’s the artist that you want to be.”

Suki's third album, Loveland, comes out July 10. Her collaborators include Taylor's frequent collaborator Aaron Dessner and legendary Fleetwood Mac drummer Mick Fleetwood. Suki starred in Daisy Jones & the Six, the Prime Video series about a band loosely based on Fleetwood Mac.

Buy Olivia Rodrigo's mini hospital room from 'the cure' video

Olivia Rodrigo, 'the cure,' (Geffen Records)

At the end of Olivia Rodrigo's video for "the cure," we see that the operating room Olivia ends up in is actually a diorama made of cardboard and string, which the "real" Olivia crushes with her foot. If you want to reenact that scene in real life, now you can — thanks to Etsy.

Olivia has teamed with an Etsy creator called Macy Mae Designs, who has created a diorama of the operating room. It comes unassembled with all the pieces you need to recreate it, including the wallpaper, checkered flooring, two tiny shelving units with bottles, a hospital bed and an itty-bitty heart made of felt resting on a medical tray.

The project, described as "part collectible, part craft project, and part display piece," is perfect for that Livvie in your life, or, as the maker's webpage notes, "anyone who appreciates a tiny world with a little heartbreak, healing, and imagination woven in." Each room costs $149.

In the video, Olivia is a nurse in the cardboard hospital who tries to cure her heart by injecting it with various antidotes, but she ends up on the operating table, hooked up to multiple hearts.

Despite rumors, filmmakers say Taylor Swift hasn't done the end title song for 'Toy Story 5'

Woody (Tom Hanks) and Buzz Lightyear (Tim Allen) in 'Toy Story 5.' (Pixar)

The filmmakers behind Toy Story 5 are shooting down rumors that Taylor Swift has written the movie's end title song.

On April 30, Taylor posted — and then removed — a countdown on her website that seemed to be Toy Story-coded. It featured blue skies, white clouds and the same shade of yellow used in the franchise's branding.

When fans noticed that Toy Story 5's release date, June 19, also marks the 20th anniversary of her debut single, rumors flew that Taylor was somehow involved in the franchise's latest installment.

But in a new interview, Toy Story 5 director Andrew Stanton says of the rumors, "It surprised us. We'd be frickin' honored." Producer Lindsey Collins adds that having Taylor involved would "be pretty amazing."

"The sad truth is, we watched the movie being mixed last week, done, and the song on the end of that was not Taylor Swift's song," Stanton clarifies.

Of course, that doesn't preclude the movie from featuring a Taylor tune somewhere, since he specifically said "the song on the end." Guess we'll have to wait until June 19 to find out.

The mystery of the disappearing countdown, however, has yet to be explained.
