(La Porte County, IN) - A semi-trailer caught fire this morning while traveling in La Porte County.

According to La Porte County Police, an officer arrived to find the rear half of the trailer fully engulfed in flames along Indiana 2 near 900 East.  Police said the driver after noticing sparks coming from the trailer pulled over a few minutes later onto the shoulder and noticed flames emerging from the back of the trailer near the back wheels.

He tried putting out the flames with an extinguisher but was unsuccessful.  Police said firefighters from New Carlisle and Kankakee Township were able to extinguish the fire.

What the trailer might have been hauling was not disclosed.
